Het Kattenkabinet

The Cat Cabinet was founded in memory of the red cat John Pierpont Morgan (1966-1983). Throughout his life, this special cat was the idiosyncratic companion of Bob Meijer, the founder of the Cat Cabinet.

Poezenmuseum in honor of beloved hangover

Every lustrum in his life, jubilee Morgan received a gift: On his fifth birthday, Morgan was portrayed by Ansèl Sandberg. On his tenth birthday, the gift was a bronze statue, for which Morgan himself modeled. Unfortunately, this statue was stolen before the opening of the Cat Cabinet. A booklet was dedicated to him on his fifteenth birthday.

Museum in the Golden Bend

Standing in the 'Gouden Bocht' of the Herengracht with a view on the KattenKabinet, it is hard to imagine that the buildings with numbers 497 and 499 were once identical houses. The houses were built in 1667 for the brothers Willem and Adriaen van Loon. Willem was assigned number 497 and Adriaen number 499 by drawing lots. The property remained in the family until 1725. What followed was an impressive line of residents. Jan Calkoen lived there as mayor of Amsterdam and US president John Adams came to visit Engelbert van Berckel.
