Fort bij Edam

Fort bij Edam is a former military fort located outside of the town of Edam. It was part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, a 135 km-long ring of defensive structures that once served to protect the city. It was operational during both World Wars, and at one point, it housed 255 officers and soldiers.

A look into the past

The fort was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1996 and is currently available for tours and occasional special events (such as a haunted house at Halloween). The grounds are also used for habitat by many species of animals and birds.
