Wetlands Safari Waterland canoe trips

Wetlands Safari organizes guided canoe trips through the 17th-century landscape just north of Amsterdam. Experience the beautiful nature of Waterland, an environment that inspired painters such as Ruysdael and Rembrandt many times. Admire the water birds such as the warbler and reed warbler and the many meadow birds, such as the godwit and the lapwing. Wetlands Safari organizes short trips, the Frisse Neus Tour or canoe trips including picnic

An active nature excursion on the water

The meeting point is Metro Station Noord or in front of the Frisse NeusToer Dorpsstraat 21, Watergang. You will meet the guide holding the well-known Wetlands Safari sign. Here you will depart by public transport to Waterland. We start at the guide's house, where we enter the canoes. You will first receive some instructions. NB: You must be fit to participate, as you will be paddling in your own Canadian canoe.

Along the way, the guide will tell you about the area and after this canoe trip, you will understand better why the houses in Amsterdam are on stilts. We see polder mills and in good weather, you can swim in a peat lake. The nature reserve through which we pass focuses entirely on the meadow birds such as black-tailed godwit and lapwing. These can be heard everywhere, especially in the spring. In the month of July, the area changes to a purple glow from various blooming flowers. If you are lucky, you can see the farmers moving cows and machines by boat.
