Enjoy a movie night
Who doesn't love a good movie? Almost all cinemas in Amsterdam offer student discounts, so pick your preferred cinema and unwind with a film or two. At Pathé cinemas (Tuschinski, Munt, City, Arena, Amsterdam Noord) you get €2 off your cinema ticket. At Rialto cinemas (de Pijp and VU), you can see a film for €9.50 when you show your student card, and VU students pay even less: €6.50. Catch a show or a concert
Concerts, lectures, theatre and festivals all have student-friendly pricing options. As a student, you can catch a performance last-minute at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet for as little as €20 when purchasing tickets from 13:00 on the day of the show. At the DeLaMar and De Kleine Komedie, you can also buy discounted tickets if a performance has not yet sold out. Make sure to check the website at 12:00 noon to snap up tickets at a 50% discount. As if that weren’t enough, everyone under 30 pays just €11 (for a Small Hall ticket) or €18 (Main Hall) for a performance or concert at Het Concertgebouw, so you can enjoy a show that same evening. You only get one chance at a first impression, so if your wardrobe is looking a little sparse, here's where you can head without breaking the bank. Students get 10% off at WE, America Today and Hunkemöller. For a haircut, de Kappersakademie is highly recommended. Here, students cut your hair, which is not only affordable, but as a student you’ll also get an additional 10% discount. Of course, as a student you’ll want to discover Amsterdam’s nightlife, but where should you go? And how do you know which club is right for you? Save on practical matters
If you're ever in need of a rental car, for moving house, for example, keep in mind that students get 10% off at Diks (note: you must be at least 21 years old and have held your driving licence for more than 1 year) and 5% off at Sixt (Note: you must be at least 21 and no older than 25, and have held your driving licence for more than 2 years). For all the discounts mentioned above, you really do need to show your student card in person, but of course there are plenty of discounts to be found online too!
