The future of the night mayor

Image from Pakhuis de Zwijger

Since Amsterdam appointed its first night mayor more than 20 years ago, the role has inspired cities across the Netherlands and beyond. But what does a night mayor actually do, and what difference has the role made for clubbers, night makers and the city? This debate will take place at Pakhuis de Zwijger.

What should Amsterdam’s Night Mayor stand for?

Together with night mayors from across the Netherlands, we look at the current role, compare how different cities give it shape, and look at what we could learn from each other: what should the night mayor of Amsterdam stand for? What are the different shapes of nighttime governance, especially the night mayor role.

With the election of Amsterdam’s next night mayor on 26 November, we invite night citizens, night makers and everyone who cares about the night to share their expectations.

The outcomes of this evening will be shared with the city administration of Amsterdam and feed into the candidate debate on 12 November. Your voice counts, and can shape the role of the next night mayor of Amsterdam.
