Schwung - Jean Cement in Theater Bellevue

We are going to do things completely differently for a moment. Somewhere in the Middle Ages, an unknown author wrote the tragedy of Jean Cement. As far as is known, this play has never been performed before – but Schwung is changing that this theatre season. The collective is bringing the forgotten history of Jean Cement to life for the first time: in its entirety and unchanged, just as it was written back then. After all, everything used to be better.

Deep in the past, Jean Cement lives a routine and predictable existence. Every day the same walk, the same porridge from the same bowl, the same work on the same land. How foul and rotten fate can sometimes be, that higher powers should choose him of all people to deviate from the beaten path. But then you have to have the stubborn Jean. No way, he wants no part of it. Jean stiffens and refuses any change.

In vain: because the future generally cares little for our planning. Your old primary school is demolished, your mother passes away, you read somewhere about space debris and how bad that is, you want to wear those cool green trousers for once, but guess what: they don't fit anymore. How long can you keep holding on to the familiar, before the thundering world devours you whole?

Jean Cement is a humorous performance for anyone who sometimes wants to resist the world that is constantly reinventing itself. In sounds of the past about themes of today: progress, conservatism, and the human tendency to want to understand everything before it happens.
