Searching for roots in Georgia
Filmmaker Déni Oumar Pitsaev inherits a piece of land in Georgia from his mother. That heirloom makes him think: what does home mean to him? He travels to Georgia to see the place with his own eyes. There, he meets a close-knit Chechen community, consisting of people who, just like his mother, once fled the war.
Warmth and inevitable questions
The community embraces Déni immediately. They show him what a life in that place could look like. But there is also a question simmering that everyone seems to want to ask him: when is Déni finally going to get married? That tension between connection and personal freedom gives the documentary Imago a relatable, human layer.
