A filmmaker in search of money and magic
Silvestre Lorna makes films and is having a hard time. He is looking for funding for his magnum opus: a 3-hour biopic about Benito Juárez, 1 of the most famous former presidents of Mexico. To get things on track, he travels to a kind of creative harem — a surreal place where he encounters cardboard dandies, wild girls, and film freaks.
A wig that changes everything
At that place, Lorna receives a strange gift: a 19th-century blonde wig that fits him perfectly. He puts it on and immediately disappears down the rabbit hole. What follows is a sharp comedy that takes a critical look at the film world — somewhere between a Mexican Mulholland Drive and the films of Buñuel.
Director Emiliano Rocha Minter
Emiliano Rocha Minter debuted at IFFR in 2016 with the boundary-pushing body horror We Are the Flesh. With The Wig, he shows a new side of himself: absurdist, comedic, and sharp in tone. The film fits seamlessly with the motto of Imagine Film Festival: 'Weird Is Wonderful'.
Short film as a supporting act
