A film about memories and what you only understand later

Aftersun is the feature film debut of director Charlotte Wells. The film follows Sophie, who as an adult looks back on a holiday she spent with her father Calum in Turkey as a teenager. Through sun-drenched holiday videos and fragments of memories, the film shows how differently you can experience the same moments — depending on who you were then and who you are now.

Paul Mescal as a father with a hidden side

Actor Paul Mescal plays Calum, a young father who hides his inner struggle behind gentle smiles and tender gestures. Frankie Corio plays the young Sophie. The film builds emotion through silence and suggestion, not through big dramatic scenes. That makes Aftersun an intimate and moving viewing experience.
