The black roots of house and techno
House and techno originated in the 1980s in Black communities in Chicago and Detroit. The Sounds of Blackness (SOB) brings those origins back to the dance floor. The evening is inspired by Frankie Knuckles, the Godfather of House, and his legendary residency at the New York Sound Factory Bar. SOB honors that legacy and shows how those sounds have shaped global club culture.
An international line-up of pioneers and new talent
SOB brings together a mix of American, European, and African DJs. Both established names and emerging talent stand side by side on stage. Each of them carries on the spirit of freedom and connection that forms the foundation of house and techno. The evening is an initiative of EPM Productions, Curtis Atchison, Hugo H., and Manny Ward, all with a long track record in the underground scene.
More than a party
SOB is a musical statement. The evening connects people through the shared language of dance music and places that music back in the cultural context from which it originates.
