Relocation

The relocation marks the next step in the development of the museum, which has presented significant Outsider Art exhibitions in Amsterdam over the past ten years, including Collection L’Art Brut van Jean Dubuffet and the internationally renowned Prinzhorn-collectie, both of great significance to the history of outsider art. Contemporary outsider art was also given ample space, with exhibitions by guest curators including Duran Lantink, Jan Hoek and Hanne Hagenaars. A highlight was the major retrospective WOEST about Willem van Genk (1927-2005), one of the best-known Dutch artists in the field of outsider art.

Lasting platform

With the relocation, the museum aims to create more space for collaboration and exchange. This includes a focus on Stichting Collectie De Stadshof and the Anton Heijboer Stichting, which strongly align with the profile of Museum van de Geest. Director Marije Kool: “We are building on the role that the Outsider Art Museum has played within the Dutch cultural landscape over the past ten years. Outsider art shows how powerful imagination is, especially from creators who do not automatically find a place in the art system. Those voices deserve visibility, now more than ever.”

Presentation at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam gallery

The Outsider Art Collectie of Museum van de Geest will remain visible with exhibitions at external locations. For example, one of the presentations can be seen in June at the gallery of the Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam, with which the museum reaches new audiences and strengthens collaboration with other cultural and social partners.
