Christmas holiday tips in ARTIS

ARTIS-Park

New habitat: Mini Madagascar: Where lions once lived, ring-tailed lemurs, red ruffed lemurs and Madagascar radiated tortoises now roam the landscape. Discover the renewed Kerbert Terrace during your walk through ARTIS.
Elephant calves: Did you know that two elephant calves are on the way? Who knows—the first calf might even be born during the Christmas holidays!
Darkness trail & children’s workshop: This winter focuses on the theme of darkness. Go on an adventure with a special trail developed in collaboration with Quest Junior, where you’ll learn about the day and night rhythms of animals and plants.
Winter guided tour: Join the guide and discover how animals and plants adapt to the short winter days.

ARTIS-Micropia

Micro Mission: Stronger Together (free to pick up at the ticket desk): Search through the museum, solve the puzzle and discover that no one truly lives alone. In the world of plants, animals and microbes, everyone helps each other—but who helps whom, and why? 20 December–4 January
Workshop: Make Your Own Microbe Plush: What do microbes look like when you turn them into a cuddly toy? Find out during the Microbe Craft Workshop. Let your creativity run free and create your own unique microbes. 23 and 30 December – 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

ARTIS-Groote Museum

Exhibition Up Close with Tanja: Amsterdam’s most famous hippopotamus takes centre stage in a special exhibition exploring the relationship between humans and animals. Come face to face with Tanja and discover her story from new perspectives. Daily
Tanja Trail: During this museum trail, you’ll discover everything about hippopotamuses and their surprising similarities to humans. Daily
Workshop: Drawing Taxidermy: At the drawing tables, study mounted animals up close and capture their shapes on paper. Daily
Audiotour with Merel Westrik: Merel Westrik shares where her fascination with taxidermy began and how it feels for her to meet Tanja, the most famous hippopotamus, once again. Daily
