On Saturday, June 13, Amsterdam West opens the doors to 26 hidden green gardens. Escape the Stone Age of tiled gardens and discover fragrant flower gardens, educational nature gardens, graceful gardens of stillness, and rustling gardens of tranquility. Admire frog ponds and bird sanctuaries, bee fields and seas of flowers. Go on a scavenger hunt and enjoy.
The city is busy and gardens are becoming increasingly paved. Residents in Amsterdam West are therefore getting to work on their gardens and creating little natural paradises. Hidden green gems behind the apartment blocks and busy streets. Some gardens have been there for a hundred years, while others have been recently revamped. There are worm hotels, frog ponds, bee fields, seas of flowers, and bird sanctuaries.
Speak to residents/gardeners and get inspiration
The residents/gardeners are often present on the Open Tuinen West day and explain how they went about it. It is a perfect opportunity to visit unique spots in this part of Amsterdam. Go on a scavenger hunt and enjoy. There is also plenty for children to do. On June 13, many gardens are hosting special events, such as a free botanical drawing course, architecture and garden tours, eating homemade cake, or buying organic plants.
