Multiculturalism/Multicommunitarianism

Multiculturalism/Multicommunitarism is an illuminated LED sign that alternates between the words "Multiculturalism" and "Multicommunitarism." By constantly switching between these two concepts, a slightly disruptive rhythm is created. For this work, the artist draws on a recognizable streetscape element: the illuminated signs of local businesses, such as phone shops, night shops, and butchers. By adopting the visual language and advertising function of these signs and shifting their commercial function, the work challenges passersby and raises questions about the tensions and consequences of multicultural societies.
