Unbroken, ME portrayed by artists and children with ME
It tells the stories that usually remain hidden, the stories about ME as a disease, but above all stories about humanity, willpower, and perseverance.
Among other things, visitors will see
Impressive mixed-media artworks by Mascha Delena
Special drawings and paintings by Ilse Sjouke
Photos and films of former professional ballet dancer Anil van der Zee
Moving texts by Martine Brandt
Moving artworks by children with ME
With this exhibition, we want to show that ME, despite being barely visible and not in the news, does indeed exist, and that the many prejudices and assumptions about this disease do not do justice to its profound reality. We do this by showcasing the work of exceptionally talented artists with ME in an accessible way. Through willpower and creativity, we hope to implicitly demonstrate the seriousness of ME, thereby drawing well-deserved attention to the children, the artists, and the thousands of ME patients in the Netherlands who live behind closed doors, unnoticed and largely forgotten.
On Sunday, May 3 at 3:00 PM, two experts will be present to focus on ME. Vivienne Matthies-Boon , Professor of Medical Ethics of Post-Acute Diseases at Radboud University, and occupational physician and clinical occupational medicine specialist Ernst Jurgens . They will speak about “ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis: How to take patients’ experiences seriously and why we have failed to fully understand this disease for so long?”
