Placenta
We were all once connected to a placenta - and yet we know so little about this organ. The duality of the placenta, which both connects and separates mother and child, makes it a symbol for artist Farah Widmer for the porous boundaries between one person and another. This relationship is depicted by placentas that Widmer has made from ceramics and poetry. Location: NDSM-Fuse, NDSM-Plein 29, Amsterdam.

Lecture on the philosophy of the placenta
In a long poem, a "placenta in poem form", Widmer uses an experimental form to describe the blurred boundary between her and her deceased mother. In the context of this theme, Rodante van der Waal, activist, philosopher and midwife, will give a lecture on the philosophy of the placenta. During her lecture, Cynthia Dorrestijn describes the mutual creation of her and her baby's perception during the maternity period and challenges the audience to test their own boundaries, inside and out.
By showing realistic images, Widmer brings medical knowledge to the public in an artistic way. This is supported in a sensory way by a workshop given by artist and midwife Nikki Oosterveen. Using real placentas, participants are given the opportunity to tactfully discover the organ and its functioning.
