About Helling X
Slope X (1922), the oldest slipway at the NDSM shipyard, is a monumental concrete structure that once bore ships’ keels. Since then, the building has been given a new purpose and is now home to the participating artists, with space for their studios.
National monument for 'dirty-hands artists'
In 2007, Slope X was designated a national monument. Ten years later, in 2017, the city council passed a revolutionary motion stating that the X-slope should be preserved for 'dirty-hands artists'. This course of action paved the way for the development of the breeding ground.
This has been achieved in a wonderful way thanks to a great deal of self-reliance and self-management, the special efforts of Municipal Real Estate, and the generous policy of the Broedplaatsen Bureau. On March 20, 2025, the new Broedplaats Helling X was festively opened by Alderman Touria Meliani.
