Iconic photos
The exhibition showcases highlights from their impressive careers, including iconic photographs that appeared in leading publications such as Fantastic Man, The Gentlewoman, Dazed & Confused, Self Service, Purple, AnOther Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine.
What at first glance appear to be calm and perfectly composed images, upon closer inspection, reveal themselves to be moments that could never exist so still and polished in real life: a falling glass, a collage of objects that together form a face—where a slightest shift would throw the entire image off balance. What today appears digitally altered, in Blommers & Schumm's work, turns out to have been created entirely before the camera lens—precisely for that one, decisive moment when the photo was taken.
Blommers and Schumm
Anuschka Blommers and Niels Schumm met at Amsterdam's Gerrit Rietveld Academy and began working together shortly after graduating in 1997. Since then, they have become leading names in international fashion photography, known for their innovative blurring of the lines between autonomous art and commercial imagery.
Blommers & Schumm have developed a unique visual language – conceptually layered and aesthetically surprising. By challenging the conventions of fashion photography and embracing the unexpected, their work invites viewers to see differently – and to see anew. This retrospective offers a rare glimpse into their ever-changing world, where precision and playfulness merge effortlessly, and nothing is as it seems.
