Being hailed as a worthy successor to the legendary Beaux Arts Trio: this is what happened to Trio con Brio Copenhagen. By now, the musicians themselves have been on the road for more than a quarter of a century. The two South Korean sisters, Soo-Jin Hong (violin) and Soo-Kyung Hong (cello), and the Dane Jens Elvekjaer (piano) met at the Vienna Conservatory and are based as a trio in Copenhagen. Their music exudes energy, emotion, and deep connection, both on stage and in their teaching and projects for children. Tonight, they will take you on a journey through works by Prokofiev, Weinberg, and Schubert.

Weinberg and Schubert

From 1943, Mieczysław Weinberg lived in Moscow literally around the corner from Shostakovich. Shostakovich's Second Piano Trio was a clear source of inspiration for Weinberg's Opus 24: the pounding ostinato in the second movement leaves little doubt about that. Yet Weinberg goes his own way. Where Shostakovich builds tension with dissonances, Weinberg uses lyricism to create the drama. This classical, expressive approach connects his trio with Schubert's masterful Piano Trio in E-flat . Schubert needed no examples to write grandly: in just a few weeks, he composed this work as a wedding gift for a friend. This rollercoaster of ideas shines with genius every minute.
