The sea as a musical theme
Symfonieorkest Bellitoni explores the sea in all its manifestations. The programme opens with the Sea Interludes by Benjamin Britten: orchestral sounds that paint life on the English coast, from quiet morning moods to turbulent waves. Afterwards, soprano Jeannette van Schaik will perform the rarely played Poème de l'amour et de la mer by Ernest Chausson. In this work, the sea symbolises longing, loss and memory.
Zemlinsky and the fairy tale by Andersen
After the interval, Die Seejungfrau by Alexander Zemlinsky will be played. This late-romantic orchestral work is inspired by the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The music is rich in colour and emotion, and makes you almost feel the world underwater. Conductor Jurjen Hempel leads the orchestra through this versatile programme.
