Highlights from classical music
In the famous Finale, the audience is allowed to participate. Here, 200 years ago, Beethoven added a choir and four vocal soloists to convey his universal message of peace and equality: Friedrich Schiller's Ode 'An die Freude'. It is not without reason that the melody became the official anthem of the European Union.
At the Ziggo Dome, the orchestra will be joined by soprano Eleanor Lyons, mezzo-soprano Olivia Vermeulen, tenor Michael Schade, and bass Hanno Müller-Brachmann, the National Mixed Youth Choir, and the audience. Before the intermission, the inspiring top conductor Iván Fischer, together with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, will prepare the entire hall so that after the intermission, a choir of thousands will sing along in the famous Finale of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
