Tetzlaff Quartet

A passion for chamber music brought them together in 1992, the members of the Tetzlaff Quartet. The quartet is named after Christian (violin) and Tanja (cello) Tetzlaff. The ensemble always sets the bar high by striving for a refined sound culture, which has been developed primarily thanks to the mutual bond and long-standing friendship of the string players. In a hymn of praise to the quartet's expressive and driven performances , The New York Times speaks of 'dramatic, energetic playing with pure intensity.' A nice touch for our Amsterdam hall is that, alongside Mendelssohn and Schubert, the Tetzlaff Quartet also brings music by Henriëtte Bosmans.

Mendelssohn and Schubert

Mendelssohn was 18 when he wrote his Second String Quartet , a remarkable miracle, but not for someone who already had the Octet and the A Midsummer Night's Dream overture in his portfolio. The greatest miracle is perhaps that Schubert put his final quartet on paper in ten days. Beethoven is everywhere, in the coherence between the themes, in the shifts in mood, and in the innovative structure. Schubert and Mendelssohn: both were propelled by intense emotions: Mendelssohn was in love with his future fiancée Cécile Jeanrenaud, Schubert was struck by a sense of mortality.
