Pianotrio’s van Dvořák en Ravel door Trio Pantoum

Trio Pantoum made a deep impression last year during a lunch concert in the Kleine Zaal. Now, the band plays Dvořák's 'Dumky' trio, full of nostalgic laments and rousing folk dances. At least equally appealing is Ravel's spectacular Piano Trio, a colorful collection of Basque music, Malaysian poetry, and exotic sounds. The name Trio Pantoum refers to the attractive and playful second movement of Ravel's trio.

Ravel's Piano Trio
Trio Pantoum was previously a guest at the Concertgebouw during a lunch concert by students of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in 2025. On that occasion, the trio enchanted the audience with Maurice Ravel's Piano Trio , including the attractive second movement, Pantoum, to which the formation's name refers. Ravel composed his masterpiece at the outbreak of the First World War, in a very short time. It became a four-part masterpiece in which he united various styles: from Basque folk music to Malay verse forms and exotic sounds.
Dvořák's 'Dumky' Trio
Antonín Dvořák's world-famous 'Dumky' Trio is one of the most beloved works in the chamber music repertoire. Since its premiere in 1891, with the Czech composer himself at the piano, the work has been a firm favorite with both audiences and musicians. The piano trio consists of six contrasting 'dumky': folk ballads in which melancholic, meditative passages alternate with lively Slavonic dances.
