Nikola Meeuwsen with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23

Nikola Meeuwsen, the Netherlands' new rapidly rising piano virtuoso, became the first Dutchman to win the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2025. A highlight of that competition was his performance in the semi-final of Mozart's Ninth Piano Concerto , his favorite composer. It is no coincidence that Meeuwsen now returns to the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23. A piano concerto of great, but above all refined class, if only for the mildly melancholic siciliano of the middle movement.

Netherlands Chamber Orchestra plays Beethoven, Ravel and Tjon Sack Kie

Ravel, a great admirer of Mozart, takes you on a beautiful sonic journey around well-known fairy tales. The orchestra introduces Ravel's suite with a new work by Julian Tjon Sack Kie. His music moves between Western music, electronics, his Surinamese roots, and West Africa. In contrast to Mozart's elegant music, Gordan Nikolić conducts the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in Beethoven's rugged Grosse Fuge , a grandiose tour de force for strings.
