Bach's St Matthew Passion

Bach employed a rich palette of musical means to convey profound emotions. Each instrument and soloist has a specific role, with the Evangelist, who tells the story, as the central figure. The choir alternates between subdued and sweeping, and every soloist adds his or her own emotional charge—from love and sorrow to solace and reflection.
