Elgar's Cello Concerto with Gautier Capuçon

Elgar's final work, his Cello Concerto, exudes dark, autumnal melancholy. Lorenzo Viotti and cellist Gautier Capuçon—widely praised for his poetic lyricism—know exactly how to handle it. Regarding a previous joint performance, De Nieuwe Muze wrote that 'Elgar blossomed in his full glory from his sad but noble swan song'.

World premiere of Willem Jeths and Tchaikovsky's Pathétique

In addition, the Netherlands Philharmonic performs a premiere written especially for the orchestra by Willem Jeths, one of the leading composers in Dutch classical music. This program about farewells also features Tchaikovsky's last symphony: a testament and farewell letter rolled into one. One last time, he laid bare his entire soul. In his Sixth Symphony , nicknamed 'Pathétique' for good reason, Tchaikovsky processed all the suffering and love, happiness and torments of his turbulent life.
