'He has established himself as an artist to watch,' reports the Montreal Gazette . Pianist Albert Cano-Smit is a young poet and a great romantic. He was born in Geneva, has a Dutch mother and a Spanish father, and currently lives in New York. In addition to the great piano repertoire, he enjoys playing contemporary music. During his debut in the Kleine Zaal tonight, he brings along Bach and Fauré, lesser-known works by both. Cano-Smit: 'Bach and Fauré are composers separated by centuries, yet whose music resonates with one another. Both were organists, incredible improvisers, and masters of counterpoint and harmony. By juxtaposing them, I feel that their strengths are emphasized.'
