Hidden Garden Concert in the Red Light District

South African jazz to baroque in Cozy Garden

Tucked between Bethaniënstraat 14 and 16 lies one of the greenest and most lived-in courtyards in De Wallen – a large communal garden with old trees and a perfect acoustic for this sonic and centuries spanning journey. James Oesi has lived in the Red Light District for over 5 years; this is his home concert.

Two instruments, centuries Apart

James Oesi is a South African double bassist who focuses on solo repertoire for the instrument, spanning from the Baroque to the present day. He is the founder and artistic director of BassFest, an international festival dedicated to the double bass and its direct relatives. James plays on an instrument made in 1872, acquired with the support of the Cultuurfonds.

David Mackor is a Dutch lutenist who combines academic roots in early music with contemporary collaborations. From the Utrecht Early Music Festival to premiering new works at the Dutch National Opera, David has worked and performed with various types of musicians as a passionate soloist and continuo player.
