Hohe Messe

Many, including Bach himself, consider Bach's Hohe Messe to be one of the most beautiful classical compositions. All the best of Bach is 'bundled' in this Hohe Messe. Bach did not compose this 'high mass' in one go. The individual mass parts were composed in various years, for example, the Credo in 1732 and the Agnus Dei in 1739. In Bach's time, it was not unusual for Protestants and Catholics to perform masses.

Philippe Herreweghe and Collegium Vocale Ghent

Collegium Vocale Gent was founded in 1970 by Philippe Herreweghe. Collegium Vocale Gent is currently considered one of early music's most prominent vocal ensembles, and Philippe Herreweghe is one of the most famous conductors. Following the latest insights, the great works of Bach and other composers are performed in a smaller, transparent setting. You are assured of a top performance this afternoon with Herreweghe as conductor and soloists such as Dorothee Mields and Alex Potter.

This concert forms a mini-series with Stabat Mater & Nisi Dominus on February 11, 2024.
