Maarten Koningsberger & Friends
On June 24, Maarten Koningsberger will say goodbye to the art of song in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. He does this with a host of musical friends – twenty great musicians with whom he has celebrated triumphs on international stages throughout his career. The program will be very special, from Byrd to Barber and from Schubert to Duparc. It is also a benefit concert, the proceeds will be donated to the Margreet Honig Foundation.

Maarten Koningsberger's international song career is characterized by a wide variety of styles; his farewell recital will also span four centuries of song art. He has sung dozens of times in the Concertgebouw, but his recitals have taken him all over the world, from the Carnegie Hall in New York to the Baxter Concert Hall in Cape Town. He has also recorded about thirty CDs, most of which are songs, with works by Dowland, Purcell, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler and Ravel, among others.

During this recital, Maarten Koningsberger is surrounded by a group of Dutch musicians with whom he has performed extensively during his career: Ed Spanjaard, Roger Braun, Kelvin Grout and Bas Verheijden (piano); Jeremy Bass and Fred Jacobs (lute and theorbo); Esther Steenbergen (guitar); Olga Franssen (fifth bass guitar); Pieter-Jan Belder (harpsichord); the Brisk Recorder Quartet, the Matangi String Quartet and The Atlantic Trio.
