A musical encounter between two worlds

In Echoes of the Court, the HarmonEast Ensemble demonstrates how music has moved between cultures throughout the centuries. In specially created arrangements, Western and Ottoman traditions come together in a unique instrumentation of ney, piano, percussion, viola, and cello. The combination of timbres creates a rich musical landscape in which similarities and contrasts between the two traditions become audible.

Music and history in dialogue

During the concert, the performances are interwoven with short historical commentary. In this way, the audience gains insight into the cultural exchange between European and Ottoman courts and the ways in which composers inspired one another. Echoes of the Court invites listeners to listen to shared musical heritage with fresh ears.
