An innovative sound with traditional instruments
Mehmet brings together outstanding jazz musicians and forges an innovative sound using instruments from various traditions. His own compositions are colored by daring improvisations and catchy grooves. He finds freedom in deviating from simple time signatures to complex, odd time signatures. This results in refreshing new music that bears similarities to traditional music from around the world, but with the freedom of contemporary jazz.
About the ensemble
The quartet was recently playing in the Bimhuis Amsterdam and Lantarenraam Rotterdam and now we proudly present them in the Greene Room! The line-up features: Mehmet Polat – oud & compositions, Franz von Chossy – piano, Jeroen Batterink – drums, Daniel van Huffelen – double bass.
Together, the quartet explores a distinctive blend of jazz and global musical traditions, continuing Polat's journey through musical crossovers that are deeply contemplative, emotionally rich, and rhythmically complex.
