Classical Highlights

Together with top musicians and host Camiel Jansen, we explore what makes the recognizable tunes of the great classical masterpieces so beautiful and special. Tonight, you can enjoy true flute masterpieces. Debussy knew better than anyone how to make the flute shine, and Isang Yun applies the power of meditative intensity in his Garak .

Flute classics

There are few instruments where breath and sound coincide as completely as the flute—and that makes a flute recital a deeply human experience. This is particularly evident in two works selected by Jasmine Choi. The mythical solitude of Debussy's Syrinx is expressed in a kind of primal force that grabs the listener by the throat. And in the meditative intensity of Garak, Isang Yun lends the piece a perfect arc form. Between these extremes, this rich program also allows the flute to speak as a lyrical and virtuos virtuoso singer.
