After two sold-out Basement Sessions and packed performances during Concertgebouw OPEN, Challem is back! In the Kleine Zaal, he presents his new album Dyade. An album about connection, about duality, about how you need two sides to create meaning and totality.
After years of studying the piano, Dutch pianist and composer Joachim Challem realized that life encompasses more than just music. He strongly believes that nature is the greatest teacher for all the complex thoughts a person can acquire. That is why he lives part of his life in the unknown mountains of Northern Spain, where he is building his own home. In his search for his dream location, he composed on every piano he came across. In 2022, he began releasing his first works—with great success. He debuted at number one on the classical charts and his work was streamed over 45 million times. This was followed in 2024 by the release of his debut album, *The Road* , with two sold-out shows at the Concertgebouw and a successful tour of 9 shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Spain. Now he is back at the Concertgebouw with the release of his new album, *Dyade* .
The concept of the 'dyad' embodies duality and the relationship between two elements. It often suggests that each part is incomplete without the other, making it a powerful symbol for connection, duality, and the importance of both sides in creating something of meaning and totality. During his move to the rural mountains, Challem soon discovered the theme of the dyad, which seemed to constantly present itself in daily life. The strong contrasts between solitude and community, silence and movement, romance and reality, reflected the balancing forces shaping both his surroundings and his inner world.
