Benjamin Herman Trio ft. BIGYUKI - The Tokyo Sessions
Explore new musical direction
Saxophonist Benjamin Herman shares his fascination with the Japanese underground scene. Since 1989, Tokyo has been a major source of inspiration for him. This led to the album The Tokyo Sessions. Here you hear a mix of jazz, anime soundtracks, and traditional music. It is a musical journey that takes you through various styles.
International collaborations
Herman recorded the album with his trio: Thomas Pol on bass and Jimmi Jo Hueting on drums. Japanese artists, such as guitarist Otomo Yoshihide and woodwind players Akihito Obama and Ko Ishikawa, also contributed to the album. For this tour, Japanese keyboardist BIGYUKI joins the group. These collaborations ensure a unique listening experience. Prior to the concert, you will see the documentary The Tokyo Sessions. Filmmaker Jonathan Herman followed his brother Benjamin during the creative process of the album. The documentary provides insight into the collaborations with Japanese artists and the recordings at Studio Dede in Tokyo, giving you a deeper understanding of the music's origins.
