Her fondness for (avant-)pop and artists operating on the fringes—think Cocteau Twins, The Magnetic Fields, Arthur Russell—had already shone through here and there in her adventurous DJ sets, but now comes to the fore on her most personal project to date. For the first time, you hear her voice fully in the foreground, and the artist promises that the record will also resonate with people who have never set foot in a club.
