Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam Noord

Located on the former site of Shell offices on the banks of the IJ, in recent years the idyllic garden offered a summer-only cultural refuge for all types of art. However, following extensive refurbishment, the venue (not only the garden – there’s also the Tolhuistuin Pavilion) is now open for business all year round.

Eclectic programming

The restyled venue offers a large café/restaurant, three theatre and concert halls, a sun terrace on the River IJ, exhibition spaces, a hip-hop school and a children’s art hall. Despite the transformation, the Tolhuistuin retains its eclectic programming and free spirit, making it a cultural venue that brings together mainstream and avant-garde in a wide variety of disciplines.

How to get there

To get to the Tolhuistuin, take the Buitsloterweg ferry from behind Amsterdam Central Station. From the other side of the River IJ, it’s just a short walk away. Alternatively, take Bus 38, Buiksloterwegferry. This information is subject to change; for up-to-date public transport info check the GVB website
