The Amsterdam Literary Café

The café, originally called " Het Amsterdamsch Literair Café De Engelbewaarder" (The Guardian Angel), is named after the novel "Memories of a Guardian Angel" by W.F. Hermans. One of the founders in 1971 was Bas Lubberhuizen, known for his publishing house. De Engelbewaarder was the first literary café in the Netherlands.

This café is a haven for art lovers, writers, and those interested in culture, where they gather for a Belgian beer, half a dozen oysters, or a delicious meal.
