De Balie is a well-known platform and centre for the freedom of speech, contemporary art, politics, culture, cinema and media, situated near the Leidseplein in the heart of Amsterdam.
Contemporary culture and inspiring debate
Founded in 1982, De Balie is situated in a historical nineteenth century building, in the previous District Court. Through talk shows, cinema, art, debates and theatre, the centre mixes several points of view in a wayward and creative fashion.
Flexible events space
The venue is made up of several characteristic spaces which can be rented separately or combined, and can be made to fit a wide range of possibilities and options for meetings, conventions, seminars, presentations, parties or dinners. The kitchen serves up honest, homemade dishes and the chef is always open to suggestions and able to create a bespoke banqueting service tailored to any sort of event or meeting.
De Balie has previously hosted customised events for Amsterdam Dance Event, Blender, Sonic Acts, Philips Healthcare, Apple and the European Parliament.
