What the scientists see and say

Worldwide, there are approximately five hundred scientists specializing in the study of genocide. They create maps that predict genocides, reconstruct emotional life in concentration camps, and introduce concepts such as perpetrator-victim cycles, involved subjects, or post-genocidal societies. These people study events that few dare to confront in such detail, and place them within the context of humanity itself.

In 2027, Splendor musician Andrea Voets and her company Resonate Productions will make the existential dimension of comparative, global genocide studies physically tangible by creating an evening of electronic music and visuals in which eleven genocide scholars are the stars of the evening. They appear on film and speak according to the highest academic standards: every word they utter has been peer-reviewed.

After years of preparation, the editing of their interviews is now complete, and there is a screening of these interviews – without music – to experience for the first time in a shared space what effect they have on people.

The interviews were conducted and edited by Andrea Voets in her usual style: an in-depth analysis to the core of their thinking and the moral implications thereof for all people, without steering towards a specific conclusion.

The scientists bring the universal principles that fuel mass murder into the here and now, without using gruesome imagery or exploiting personal traumas.
