On 23 October at Polanentheater in Amsterdam, Terminal 8 presents Jordan Harrison’s spare, funny and quietly devastating play Marjorie Prime, performed in English. Living with her daughter and son-in-law, an ageing Marjorie speaks to an AI recreation of her late husband. An intimate play about dementia, family and how our memories shape who we are.

A Person Made of Memories

Walter Prime resembles Marjorie’s late husband, but knows only the stories he is told. As he learns who Walter was, memories shift, painful truths are avoided, and new versions of a shared past begin to emerge.

Love in a Changing Reality

With dry humour and great tenderness, Jordan Harrison shows a family trying to hold on to what is slowly disappearing. Marjorie Prime offers no easy answers about technology. Instead, it explores what we preserve, what we forget, and how much of a person continues to exist in the memories of others.
