The Sounds of Blackness (SOB) is an evening dedicated to the Black origins of house, soulful house, and techno. The inspiration comes from Frankie Knuckles, known as the godfather of house, his legendary residency at the NYC Sound Factory Bar, and his remix of 'The Pressure' from Sounds of Blackness . SOB honors that legacy and shows how this music continues to connect dance worlds worldwide.
Underground sounds that shaped club culture
House and techno emerged as expressions of freedom, resistance, and community. The Sounds of Blackness brings that underground spirit back to the dance floor. The line-up consists of American, European, and African DJs, including both pioneers and emerging talent. Each artist actively carries forward the story of this music and ensures that it continues to evolve.
The people behind SOB
The event is an initiative of EPM Productions (Elliott Matos and Benjamin Aillery), Curtis Atchison of SoundGroove and Midnight Society, Hugo Hutchinson (Hugo H.), and Manny Ward. Together, they combine their background in the American club scene and their passion for Black artistry in dance music.
