Music by Philip Glass in a special setting
Harpist Lavinia Meijer and bassist-guitarist Reyer Zwart present a program dedicated to the music of Philip Glass. Glass is known for his minimalist style: repeating patterns, calm build-ups, and a hypnotic rhythm. Meijer has been performing his work for years and imbues the compositions with her own unique, heartfelt character. Together with Zwart, an intimate interplay emerges that closely approaches the essence of Glass's music.
Fractal images fill the dome
Fractal artist Julius Horsthuis provides the visual accompaniment. He projects changing geometric patterns onto the dome of the ARTIS Planetarium. These images are not decoration, but an independent part of the performance. The shapes move along with the music and enhance the atmosphere of the compositions. In this way, the dome space becomes an environment that envelops you on all sides.
The ARTIS Planetarium as a stage
The ARTIS Planetarium in Amsterdam is not your usual concert hall. The dome offers a 360-degree projection surface and places you right in the middle of the image. This makes the space ideally suited for a performance where music and visuals come together. You sit literally under the stars while the sounds of Glass surround you.
