Black Coffee: from South Africa to the world stages

Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Maphumulo in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, began his career in the mid-1990s as a DJ and producer in South Africa. His sound defies categorization: he combines deep house music with African percussion, jazz, and electronic elements. This resulted in a unique style that others have come to call 'Afropolitan House'.

A sound that hypnotizes

What sets Black Coffee apart is his approach: no inflated climaxes or clichés, but layered, organic grooves that slowly draw you in. His music is rooted in African traditions, yet sounds simultaneously urban and timeless. In 2022, he won a Grammy Award for Best Dance & Electronic Album with his record Subconsciously.
