Explore the background
Discover a deeper understanding of the long-lasting impact of colonialism. This project highlights the traumas that persist into the present. Ireland serves as the starting point, recognized as the first British colonial project. The exhibition and accompanying events connect artists focusing on Ireland's past with the current struggle in areas such as Palestine and Bangladesh.
Understand the art
The works reveal the subtle, often insidious ways in which colonial rule and violence persist. This occurs long after formal independence has been achieved. These influences penetrate deeply into personal memories and feelings, but also into social structures. They are embedded in the daily dynamics of these societies.
Collaboration and insight
The project is a collaboration between the Irish EVA International and de Appel. It includes a new commission by Dina Mimi. In addition, you will see presentations by artists and projects that EVA International has mentored between 2021 and 2025. Think of We realised the power of it – Derry Film and Video Workshop . This project is by Sara Greavu and Ciara Phillips. The curators are Ailbhe W. Drohan, Matt Packer, and Eszter Szakács.
Broaden your horizons
Involved partners include Filmtheater Kriterion and Eye Filmmuseum. The international workshop LIBERATIONS: Questions for Art and Theory , organized by the University of Amsterdam, also plays a role. These collaborations offer you a broad perspective on the subject. They enrich your understanding of the complex themes central to this project.
