With Le sacre du printemps, Igor Stravinsky wrote a work that changed music history forever. The infamous premiere in 1913, which resulted in an unprecedented scandal, marked the beginning of a new musical language full of unstoppable rhythms and daring sound collages. The Netherlands Philharmonic performs the work under the direction of the highly sought-after Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu, who is, among other things, chief conductor of the Finnish National Opera and the Finnish Ballet, and who made his debut with the Netherlands Philharmonic in 2023.

The Sacre is a very rhythmic piece. And the same applies to the European premiere of the jazzy Cello Concerto , written by the famous American composer Wynton Marsalis, commissioned in part by the Netherlands Philharmonic. It is a groundbreaking work in which jazz and classical music come together in a unique way. Making her debut as soloist with the Netherlands Philharmonic is American star cellist Alisa Weilerstein, renowned for her expressive playing and her passion for both the great cello repertoire and contemporary compositions.
