Richard Wagner

Richard Wagner is regarded as one of the most influential composers in Western music history. He pushed the boundaries of music, from the revolutionary orchestrations in his operas to the high standards he set for the institution of opera and its audience. His oeuvre is vast, and many of his epic music dramas were frequently performed during his lifetime. To realize his grand vision of the ideal opera and to bring his Ring cycle to fruition, he even built his own theater in Bayreuth, which could fully meet his theatrical requirements and ideas.

The Royal Swedish Orchestra celebrates its five hundredth anniversary with the finest Wagner hits during a European tour led by chief conductor Alan Gilbert. From the overwhelming overture from Tannhäuser and the enchanting 'Waldweben' (Woodwebs) from Siegfried to the Funeral March and the imposing final scene from Götterdämmerung , the last part of the famous cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen .
