Brahms' impressive Violin Concerto
Top violinist and conductor Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider is praised worldwide for his 'breathtaking brilliance' ( The New York Times ) and the 'silver, feather-light articulated' sound with which he creates 'magical sound worlds' ( The Strad ). His recordings of Brahms' and Korngold's violin concertos with the Vienna Philharmonic garnered critical acclaim. Following earlier performances of Brahms' imposing masterpiece in Amsterdam with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, he now returns for a performance with the Royal Danish Orchestra.
Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev
Prokofiev's dramatic ballet Romeo and Juliet is based on Shakespeare's world-famous tragedy about the rival families Montague and Capulet and the fateful love between Romeo and Juliet. The ballet was such a success that Prokofiev composed three orchestral suites for the concert hall from it and also arranged the work for solo piano. The Royal Danish Orchestra, under the direction of their young chief conductor Marie Jacquot, performs a selection of the most beautiful dances from these suites. In addition, poetic orchestral music by the contemporary Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen will be performed.
