RADIOHOP | Tomoki Sanders

1/2
Slide 1 of 2

ADE evening with collective groove from Amsterdam and raw tenor saxophone from New York. In collaboration with the Amsterdam Dance Event and in partnership with Steppin', the main hall of the Bimhuis is transformed into a nightclub. The chairs are removed and the dance floor is opened. Featuring tonight RADIOHOP and Tomoki Sanders: Where many bands revolve around one voice or lead instrument, RADIOHOP creates a fully collective sound. Each band member is equal and the music moves as one organism, focused on feeling and atmosphere instead of ego or the solo spot.

Collective groove from Amsterdam and raw tenor saxophone from New York

The compositions of the instrumental quartet from Amsterdam arise from experiment, intuitive collaboration and deep listening, and weave jazz, hip-hop and groove into compelling soundscapes.

After the debut album All We Do followed a remix EP and the beat-oriented album Hard To Handle, and the band recorded a second record that digs even deeper into that raw, collective energy. Tenor saxophonist Tomoki Sanders moves effortlessly between two worlds: the New York tradition of spiritual, adventurous jazz and the contemporary beat and hip-hop scene.

From New York, he shares the stage with greats such as Pharoah Sanders (his father, for the attentive reader), Ravi Coltrane and the Jack DeJohnette Trio, and simultaneously works with innovators such as Kassa Overall, Taylor McFerrin and Mark de Clive-Lowe. With roots in both New York and Japan, Sanders brings those diverse languages together into his own, raw and searching sound.

That results in music that is just as much at home in a club night as in the concert hall, perfect for ADE in our venue. 19:30 café Steppin': Lucas Benjamin & Kay Tee dj 20:30 RADIOHOP 21:30 Tomoki Sanders Afterwards café: afterparty Steppin'
