The delivery had gone well; the baby, Raimund Leopold, was born healthy. Mozart had promised his Constanze to write a mass once their first child was born, and he set to work immediately. But then disaster struck: while Wolfgang was working on 'Et incarnatus est', Raimund suddenly lay dead in his cradle… The unfinished mass was performed in Salzburg in 1783, with Mozart’s wife Constanze as first soprano; in this way, Mozart introduced Constanze into his family. The Unfinished Mass in C major is among Mozart’s most brilliant works.
